It means Ramunas Butautas's side will now miss out on the last eight for the first time in eight years.

Pau netted 19 points, eight rebounds and three blocks to the delight of Spanish coach Sergio Scariola, whose side next face hosts Poland on Wednesday in a must-win clash.

au was very important defensively for us.

He made one big step forward in terms of intensity and aggressiveness. The team took advantage of this.

I think it was an excellent game from our team. One main issue was that we recovered our physical condition and we played the game the way we like to - by running and being aggressive.

Joe Johnson (pictured) scored 27 points to lead the Hawks to a victory over the Heat that saw them win their Eastern Conference first-round series 4-3.

It was yet another lopsided win in a series that produced little drama, despite going the maximum seven games.

All seven games saw just 15 lead changes total - and none after the first quarter and each was decided by at least 10 points.

A close first quarter ended with the Hawks ahead 20-18, and they moved on steadily from there. Atlanta led 49-36 by half-time and by as many as 29 points in the final quarter, reaching the second round for the first time in a decade.

The Heat, led by Most Valuable Player candidate Dwyane Wade, had forced game seven with a 98-72 victory on Friday.

Wade scored 31 points, but most of them came after Atlanta had established a comfortable cushion and it wasn't enough to extend Miami's season.

That the Heat were even back in the playoffs marked a remarkable turnaround from a woeful 15-67 record in their previous campaign.

Driving to the basket, Atlanta's Zaza Pachulia was seized around the neck by Miami forward Udonis Haslem, who was ejected for a flagrant foul.

Atlanta coach Mike Woodson, meanwhile, raced onto the court to make sure his players kept their cool, knowing he cannot afford to have anyone suspended when the Hawks take on the top-seeded Cavaliers in a series that starts on Tuesday.

Atlanta had not won a first-round series since a victory over Detroit in 1999.

Trevor Ariza had 18 as a starter, Lamar Odom added 16 and Jordan Farmar had 13 in the first of seven consecutive road games for Los Angeles.

"They kind of overwhelmed us with their energy in the first half," Bryant said." We wanted to come out (after halftime) and do the same."The Lakers reserves provided that spark to beat the Bulls."So many things went against us tonight - we could have easily just went, 'Ah well, we'll get the next one,'" said Lakers guard Derek Fisher. "But guys off the bench were contributing."

John Salmons had 30 points and Derrick Rose scored 25 for the Bulls (32-38), who are trying to hold on to the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.Despite the loss, Chicago is a game ahead of Charlotte and one and a half games in front of Milwaukee and New Jersey for the eighth spot. The Lakers trailed 62-48 at the half but produced a 33-point third quarter to cut the deficit to six with one period left in the ballgame.

O'Neal surpassed Moses Malone, moving into the top five spot with 27,411 career points. He also had 10 rebounds on Saturday.

"It was good, but I'm still kind of disappointed in myself," O'Neal said. "Mathematically, I've missed three years worth of games and I missed 5,000 free throws. If I was there, I'd probably be No. 2 or No. 3 right now."

Jason Richardson led with 35 points for the Suns, who extended their winning streak to a season high four games.

Steve Nash added 17 points for Phoenix, who pulled with three games of idle Dallas for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West with 13 to play.

O'Neal joked about trying to catch Wilt Chamberlain.

"It shows I've been consistent at what I've been doing and the next guy is my illegitimate father - Wilt Chamberlain - so just like in Star Wars, hopefully I can catch up to my father."

The Los Angeles Lakers overturned a 14-point halftime deficit to beat the Chicago Bulls 117-109 helped by Kobe Bryant's 28 points.

Spaniard Pau Gasol added 23 points and 10 rebounds for the Western Conference-leading Lakers (55-14), who have the league's second best record behind Eastern leader Cleveland (56-13).

Basketball legend Manute Bol has good reason to be angry: in Sudan's north-south civil war, more than 250 family members were killed and his home town was razed to the ground.Yet he speaks of reconciliation rather than revenge, with plans not only to build schools in his native south Sudan -- but also to make peace with bitter enemies from the still war-torn western region of Darfur.

My dream is to build schools all across south Sudan, because with education you can live your life, get a job, improve," said Bol, settling his giant seven foot seven inch (231 centimetres) frame beneath the shade of a tree."But we must also support the people of Darfur, because they, like us, are suffering the same," added Bol -- the tallest player in America's National Basketball Association (NBA) history along with Romanian Gheorghe Muresan.Bol was an iconic basketball shot-blocker, becoming perhaps Sudan's most famous son

Oil-rich south Sudan was left in ruins by the 22-year civil war, as rebels battled northern government soldiers and militia forces, many recruited from poverty-stricken Darfur, and who were then actively encouraged to commit atrocities.

Point guard Rajon Rondo sustained an ankle injury in the first quarter but returned to the action and contributed six points and 10 assists.

The Cavaliers (48-13) still hold a better winning percentage than the Celtics despite dropping their first game in five.

Mo Williams led the way for Cleveland with 26 points while James finished 5-for-15 shooting from the field.

The game was level at 57-57 with 6:56 remaining in the third before the Celtics closed the quarter with a 21-12 run to take a 78-69 advantage.

"No (Kevin Garnett) or with KG they are going to be a great team because they buy into the system," James said.

"A lot of teams can't afford to lose an All-Star but they have two more. They still have two superstars who can keep up the same tempo."

In a rematch of last season's hard fought seven-game Eastern Conference semi-finals series, things became testy in the third quarter.

Boston forward Glen Davis was ejected after committing a foul on Anderson Varejao and players had to be separated.

Cavaliers forward Joe Smith recorded seven points and five rebounds in his debut with the team after being signed following his release by the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Celtics now lead the season series 2-1 with one final game remaining between the teams on April 12.

LeBron James (pictured left) led the hosts with his 21st career triple-double, finishing with 14 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds.

Williams top-scored for Cleveland with 29 points, scoring 12 points in the fourth quarter, and Delonte West had 19.

"He (Williams) made big play after big play after big play," Brown said. "It was great to see another guy like Mo being able to take over the game offensively to give a guy like LeBron, who used to do it quite a bit in the past for us, a rest."

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra also drew a technical on the play before Wade received his.

"We were all a little bit frustrated," Spoelstra said.

Wade said he was unhappy with the officiating throughout the game.

With six weeks remaining in the regular season, the Cavaliers and Boston Celtics have already secured their places in the Eastern Conference title chase as they fight for the best record in the league and a home-court playoff edge.

The Cavaliers (48-12) and Celtics (48-14) meet Friday night in Boston. Cleveland is approaching the club's single-season record of 57 wins set in 1989 after a fourth win in a row.

The Cavaliers hit just 31-of-74 shots from the field but defensively silenced the Bucks, who connected on only 28-of-75 and committed 18 turnovers.

Pierce sank a jump shot with 20 seconds remaining to give the Celtics a 113-11 lead, evading defender Jarvis Hayes to hit the decider and finish 12-of-14 from the field.

Vince Carter missed a tying layup attempt for the Nets and Boston's Ray Allen sank two free throws to create the final margin, the Celtics completing a 7-0 run to end the game after a Carter 3-pointer put the Nets ahead.

Rajon Rondo scored 20 points, 16 of them in the third quarter, to help spark the Celtics while former New York Knicks standout Stephon Marbury was greeted with boos in his return to the New York area as a Celtic.

Marbury signed with Boston after a seaon-long dispute with the Knicks saw him sit out until reaching a financial deal with the club and securing his release. Marbury had no points and four assists while playing 14 minutes.
